Oscar nominated Brenda Blethyn plays Detective Inspector Vera Stanhope in each of the 120 minute self contained stories. Vera is an obsessive work-driven character with a caustic wit and a real intuitive sense for crime. Together with trusty sidekick and surrogate son, Joe Ashworth (David Leon), Vera approaches every new case with unparalleled gusto. She is the creation of acclaimed crime writer Ann Cleeves.
The new episodes will be adapted from Ann’s other novels, Telling Tales and The Crow Trap and the third is an original story.
Set once again in contemporary Northumberland and Newcastle, Vera is produced by Elaine Collins, who developed the first episode as a Script Executive having discovered Ann’s books
